Frigidaire Dryer Error Codes
Frigidaire dryer faults are mostly about heat and airflow. AF (restricted vent) and E64 (open heating element) are the ones that leave clothes wet. Here's each code, what the control is reading, and the fix.

AF
Means: Restricted airflow — the dryer measured poor exhaust airflow. The vent run (lint screen, transition hose, rigid duct or exterior cap) is partly blocked.
Fix: Clean the lint screen every load, then clear the whole vent: pull the dryer out, disconnect the transition hose, vacuum the duct, and check the outside cap flap opens freely.
E4A
Means: Cycle-timeout fault — the dryer ran past the maximum allowed cycle time, usually because it isn't heating or airflow is poor so clothes never dry.
Fix: Treat it as a no-heat/airflow problem: clean the vent (see AF) and confirm the dryer is heating. If airflow and heat are fine but E4A returns, the main control board is suspect.
E64
Means: Open heating-element circuit — no heat. The heating element has an open (or shorted) circuit, the single most common cause of this code.
Fix: Unplug the dryer and test the heating element for continuity; replace it if open. Also check the element wiring and the thermal cut-off/limit before condemning the control board.
E68
Means: Stuck key — the control reads a button on the panel as held down, from a sticky key, debris, or a failed user-interface board.
Fix: Power-cycle the dryer to clear a one-time read. If E68 returns, clean around the buttons; a code that persists means the keypad or control board needs replacing.
The pattern behind Frigidaire dryer codes
Nearly every Frigidaire dryer code traces back to one question: can the dryer make heat and move air?
- AF — airflow first: Frigidaire actively measures exhaust airflow. AF is a warning that the vent is restricted. Ignore it and the restriction cooks the heating element — the next code is often E64 and a real repair bill. Clean the full vent, not just the lint screen.
- E64 — no heat: the element circuit is open. This is the classic 'runs but clothes stay wet' code. Test the element for continuity before buying parts.
- E4A — ran too long: a downstream symptom of no heat or poor airflow; fix those first.
- E68 — stuck button: the odd one out, a control-panel fault rather than a heat problem.
First response
- Unplug the dryer for one minute to clear one-time faults.
- Clean the lint screen and the entire vent run to the outside — this alone clears AF and many E4A codes.
- If clothes still come out wet with no code cleared, unplug and test the heating element and thermal limits for continuity.
When to call a technician
If the vent is clear and the dryer still throws AF or E4A, the airflow/exhaust sensor may be faulty. A persistent E64 after a confirmed-good element points to the wiring, thermal cut-off or main control board. E68 that survives a clean-up means the user-interface board needs replacing. All three are service-level jobs.

FAQ
What does E64 mean on a Frigidaire dryer?
E64 means an open heating-element circuit — the dryer runs but makes no heat, so clothes stay wet. The heating element itself is the most common cause; test it for continuity before replacing the control board.
How do I fix an AF code on a Frigidaire dryer?
AF means restricted airflow. Clean the lint screen, then clear the entire vent: the transition hose, rigid duct and the exterior cap. A blocked vent left unfixed can burn out the heating element.
Why does my Frigidaire dryer take too long to dry (E4A)?
E4A is a cycle-timeout — the dryer ran past its maximum time because it isn't drying. It's almost always poor airflow (clean the vent) or no heat (test the heating element) rather than a control fault.
