Whirlpool dryers show a short code when a cycle stops or won't heat. Find yours below with what the control is reporting and the first fix to try.
PF
Means: Power failure — the dryer lost power mid-cycle.
Fix: Restart the cycle. If PF keeps returning, check the outlet, the 240V breaker and the power cord connections for a loose or intermittent contact.
F01 / F1
Means: Main control board (CCU) failure.
Fix: Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes to clear a one-off glitch. If F01 returns, the main control board needs replacing.
AF
Means: Restricted airflow — exhaust is blocked (a fire-risk warning).
Fix: Clean the lint screen and the full exhaust vent to the outside; check the transition hose for crushing or kinks.
L2
Means: Low voltage — the drum turns but the heater won't run.
Fix: Check the 240V breaker; a half-tripped leg is the usual cause. Inspect the outlet contacts and power cord for burning.
E1
Means: Open exhaust thermistor — the dryer can't read exhaust temperature.
Fix: Check the thermistor wiring at the exhaust duct; if the circuit reads open, replace the exhaust thermistor.
E2
Means: Shorted thermistor or moisture-sensor fault.
Fix: Replace the exhaust thermistor, or clean and inspect the moisture-sensor bars inside the drum if only auto-dry cycles fail.

How do I reset a Whirlpool dryer?
