LG Oven & Range Error Codes
Most LG oven faults are F-codes about heating or the touch panel. F9 (won't heat) and F3 (stuck key) are the two you'll see most. Below is each code, what the control is actually detecting, and how to clear it before paying for a part.

F3
Means: Touch-pad / key error — the control reads a button as permanently pressed, usually a shorted key or a damaged ribbon cable to the keypad.
Fix: Press CLEAR/OFF and try again. If F3 returns, unplug for 1 minute to reset. A code that keeps coming back points to the touch panel or control board.
F9
Means: Oven not heating — the oven failed to reach about 150°F within five minutes. On electric models the bake element or sensor is suspect; on gas models it's usually the igniter.
Fix: Unplug for 1 minute. Check the bake element for breaks/blisters (electric) or listen for the igniter glowing then lighting (gas). Replace the failed element, igniter or temperature sensor.
F19
Means: Oven heating error — the control detected a heating fault or an over-temperature condition during cooking or self-clean.
Fix: Let the oven cool completely, then unplug for 1 minute. If F19 returns, the oven temperature sensor or the relay board driving the element needs testing.
dE / dE1–dE4
Means: Door-lock / door-sensor fault — the self-clean latch motor or door switch isn't reporting the door state the control expects.
Fix: Make sure the door is fully closed and nothing blocks the latch. Unplug for 1 minute. If the latch won't release or dE persists, the door-lock assembly or its switch needs replacing.
CL
Means: Control Lock is ON — this is not a fault. The keypad is locked to prevent accidental use (child lock).
Fix: Press and hold the LOCK (or CLEAR/OFF) key for about 3 seconds until CL clears and the panel responds again.
How LG oven codes work
LG groups range faults into families: F-codes cover heating and the touch panel, dE-codes cover the door-lock system, and letter codes like CL are settings, not failures. The first move for almost every F-code is the same: press CLEAR/OFF, and if that doesn't clear it, unplug the range for one minute to reset the control board.
The two you'll actually meet
- F9 — no heat: the single most common LG oven code. The oven tried to preheat and never reached temperature. On electric ranges, inspect the bake element for a visible break; on gas ranges, watch whether the igniter glows but never lights the burner — a weak igniter is the usual culprit.
- F3 — stuck key: the control thinks a button is held down. Often it clears on a reset; if it returns in minutes, the membrane keypad or ribbon cable has failed.
When to call a technician
If an F9 or F19 returns after you've reset the control and inspected the element/igniter, the temperature sensor (a two-wire probe inside the cavity) or the relay control board is the next suspect — both are service-level repairs on most LG ranges. A dE code where the self-clean latch physically won't release also needs a technician to free and replace the lock motor.

FAQ
What does F9 mean on an LG oven?
F9 means the oven didn't reach about 150°F within five minutes — it isn't heating. On electric ranges check the bake element; on gas ranges check the igniter. The temperature sensor can also cause it.
How do I reset an LG oven error code?
Press CLEAR/OFF first. If the code stays, unplug the range (or switch off its breaker) for one minute, then restore power. This resets the control board and clears one-time faults.
What is the CL code on my LG oven?
CL means Control Lock is switched on — it's a child-lock setting, not a fault. Hold the LOCK or CLEAR/OFF key for about three seconds to turn it off.
